Jason Tait

Jason graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science Degree at the University of Queensland St Lucia Campus in 2004. Jason quickly realised what made him so passionate about working with animals – forming a bond with the patient and listening to the concerns of the clients. Jason credits this, his most important skill set, to the tutelage of a handful of truly empathetic veterinarians while he was a student. Jason strives to take this approach with every pet, every day.
Jason and his wife Megan moved to the Lockyer Valley after graduation. The move proved to be ideal for the development of them as professionals. The rural lifestyle provided a true array of work with everything from pocket pets to draught horses.
After years in mixed practice Jason took the plunge and started his own small animal clinic in Springfield Lakes. The clinic was a success- a loyal family of staff, an appreciative client base and happy fur babies coming through the doors. Unfortunately, several years on Jason’s mental health was in decline, and the extremely difficult decision was made to sell the clinic. Jason took a step back in responsibilities and undertook work as a locum for a few years.
Jason and Megan found their way to the Fraser Coast amidst the bedlam that was Covid-19. Jason took on a role in establishing the Nissen Street Veterinary Clinic before moving into employment at the Hervey Bay Veterinary Surgery. He has also worked in other family-owned practices in Maryborough and Hervey Bay. Every clinic was in the same position – there was no scope for a large animal veterinarian attending to the emergencies on a day-to-day basis. Jason decided to bridge this gap.

Cassie Nolen
Cassie is a born and bred Hervey Bay local. Living alongside animals was the standard from a very young age. She is rarely seen without one of the dogs, and though she does love all animals, horses earnt their place atop the list and have held that mantle to this day.

Cassie undertook Equine studies at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus then moved on to completing her Certificate 4 as a Farrier. Cassie has now turned the profession into a sport and has competed at the EKKA, the Adelaide Royal Show, and the Gatton Heavy Horse Show.
Cassie is thrilled to be a part of this new service to the Fraser Coast and can’t wait to meet and greet people and pets alike.

What animals do you see?
We provide mobile services for dogs, cats, horses and livestock.
What are your operating hours?
We are contactable from 7am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, and 7am to Midday on Fridays.
How should I prepare for a mobile vet visit?
- Pets should be on hand for the veterinarian’s arrival.
- Dogs: Please have a collar or harness on and a leash available in case needed. If you have multiple dogs please have an ability to separate your pet being seen to so that a thorough stress free exam can be performed.
- Cats: Please ensure your cats is indoors, ideally confined in a room of the house, where they can be easily found. Please ensure they cannot hide under furniture or at the top of cupboards when we arrive.
- Horses: Please have your horse in a small yard or stable, haltered.
- Cattle, sheep, goats, alpacas etc: Please have the animal confined in a small yard or stable, separate from other animals.
Do you provide an after hours service?
- Unfortunately, there is a limitation to the service we can provide due to the nature of being a mobile service.
- After hours cases often need hospitalisation and legislation prevents hospitalisation outside a physical clinic setting.
What should I do if my pet needs emergency attention during business hours?
- If you are in Maryborough immediately phone the Maryborough Veterinary Surgery (our affiliated clinic) on 07 4121 3849.
- If you are in Hervey Bay immediately phone the Hervey Bay Veterinary Surgery (our affiliated clinic) on 07 4124 4679.
If we are not able to attend your pet immediately, please seek urgent help at a clinic close to you.
what should I do if my pet needs emergency attention after hours?
- The closest 24-hour Veterinary Centres (dogs/cats) are on the Sunshine Coast.

How will I know when to expect your arrival?
- We endeavour to arrive at the scheduled time
- We will correspond with you via SMS should an emergency arise or we become delayed with another patient.
- We will ring you when we are on our way to your appointment
I have phoned and haven't received an answer. What do I do?
- In some cases we are in consultation, treating an emergency, or are travelling through areas of poor service.

What payment options are there available?

Is there a travel fee?
- For Veterinary Visits within 15klm of the Central Business District of both Maryborough and Hervey Bay there are no travel fees.
- Thereafter the fee of $2.70 per kilometer each way is incurred.
Do you dispense medication at the time of consultation?
- In most situations we will have stock on hand to dispense
- At the time of booking we will ask a few questions relating to the reason a consultation is required. This will allow us to allocate an appropriate amount of time required and pack what medications may be required.
- We do have extra medication at the office should it be required.

As a qualified farrier and lifelong horse owner she brings invaluable knowledge and experience to our team. Cassie is at the start of her new journey as a veterinary nurse. She is absorbing knowledge and new skills with great enthusiasm. She also keeps Jason on task acting as receptionist, managing calls and bookings. Added to that list of responsibilities, Cassie acts as our social media manager, creating posts and replying to the questions of the community.

Say hello to “Uncle Jason”!!! Jason began his career in a mixed small and large animal practice in the Lockyer Valley. He then undertook the adventure of ownership of a small animal practice. Through the hands of fate he and his wife Megan settled into their new life on the Fraser Coast. For the last 5 years he has observed the need for a mobile equine and livestock veterinarian in the region. In order to provide the best care possible, Jason spent a month of continuing professional development at a rural specialist practice.
